We flew Singapore last Saturday, we had 43k each (5 of us!) and werent charged any extra. We'd got 40kg confirmed by e-mail prior to arriving though only 3 of us had permanent visas. Its worth being cheeky and asking

HI,
We flew singapore in January and the travel agent (travel bag) arranged excess baggage allowance for us - 40kg each for 3 of us. We had to fax the agent copies of our PR visas. The excess baggage allowance showed up on our tickets.
HOpe this helps

Re: excess baggage on singapore
Was told on the phone in London the allowance was 20kgs but they would go to 25kgs and after that it was "at the discretion of checkin". I was on a cheapo o/w ticket and smiled sweetly and got away with 29kgs and no excess charge (also bagged a "not available" exit seat with the same smile - must have been a good day!). They will double to 40kgs on proof of FIRST ENTRY on a PR visa. I was on my second trip back after first entry and they wouldn't wear it a second time, although not sure if they would have checked up on the stamps in my passport or not.

I phoned them and was told 31gbp per kilo,
When we checked in we had 77kg, with an allowance of 70kg (the wife on PR spouse visa had pre-arranged double baggage allowance (40kg), and they offered me 30kg at the time of booking).
The nice check in man pointed out that we were over, but did not charge. If he had reckon would have been chucking some stuff away instead of paying the charge.

I also got my hand luggage measured and weighed for the first time in ages when I flew Singapore Air in December. The allowance from Oz was 7kg and mine was near on 10 but they let it pass thankfully.
