Simple fact,if you work at it,it will work for you-if you sit there bemoaning your luck and the cards you've been dealt then life will be truly miserable and in your case I think you probably deserve it! Percentage wise Australia's Muslim poplution nearly equals that in the UK and Australia has the worlds biggest Muslim country on its door step , 160 races live in Australia and Poms are not the only race coming to this land infact Poms are being scaled down to make room for more Asians as Australia sees its future in China not Europe. :D   |

I have always been one of life's workers and do not need your advice, Mike. You are sadly deluded about Oz and I detect in your posts a fervour to get out of the UK that seems desperate - this is setting yourself up for a big disappointment when you see that you have left a better country behind. Change your mind and stick with the UK. Work hard at making it a better place to live instead of writing it off. Good luck. |

"The last word goes to a mate of mine who lives in Brisbane-Port talbot born,Chepstow educated but moved to Oz in 1989,on his own-hes a success story-worked hard and got a great life-ask him about Oz and he says quite simply"WHO WOULD WANT TO LIVE ANYWHERE ELSE"-hes embraced Oz,has become a citizen and even shouts for Australia when they are playing his beloved Wales-perhaps thats the secret-embrace Oz,become an Ozzie!" What drivel! I'm Welsh - born and bred. No true welshperson ever shouts for the Wallabies - I'm also In Brisbane. can I insult? for a start I see no racisms in that sentence Wilf wrote "I need no advice from welshmen who reject their homeland and play at being an ozzie" and in fact I agree with the sentence and I'm Welsh. No 2 - I have a welsh friend here who's been here 30 years and will not take out citizenship. So being a welsh person you can add me to the list of not liking Aus and no intention of taking out citizenship (I've been here 6 years) - you can also add my friend to that list who's been here 30 years - he will not take citizenship out , he is still Pr even after all of these years. So don't count your friend who was born (but not bred) in fume filled Port Talbot as representing, talking for all welsh people - he can talk for himself maybe , because he is certainly not representing me or any of my Welsh friends- thank you very much ! I talk for myself - and I see no racism in Wilfs statement. P.S anywhere is better than living in P.Talbot - not a place I'd like to live myself Cymru am byth |

Originally posted by Ceri The way they are going they'll be lucky to get out of their group into the quarters in the world cup - it only takes Ireland to beat them (not impossible) - and maybe a total upset of Argentina as well (anything can happen). Re: emigrating
Originally posted by nixstuff Whatever you do, don't run from. You'll only be disappointed at what you find elsewhere out there. Run to. Find a damn good reason to want to be somewhere else, but don't take your emotional baggage with you about the UK. You want something completely different, go to rural france. Or Latin America. Or Scandinavia. The English speaking world all carries the stars and stripes stamp. Be warned, find a different dream to chase. So many brits come back from other parts of the world. We know why. You can take an englishman out of england, but you can't... :D   |
This post has degenerated (along with many others) into a commentary far removed from the original query - what was a general query about moving to Australia has now become a discussion on the Welsh, the rugby score at the weekend, crime in the UK and Australia, and I dare say much more by way of a personal slanging match as people seek to assert their opinions on others, which quite honestly are simply a repeat of much I have read before.
This hi-jacking of posts is tedious, unnecessary, and quite frankly it would be good if the Administrator would allow us a month or two without postings from certain people so that we can get back to the original generally helpful nature of this Forum that existed before certain unnamed individuals decided to amuse themselves by spending their daylight hours antagonising people on this forum. Best regards. |

You understood exactly what I was saying. I would say the same sentence about any nation or people. For example, I also need no advice from Englishmen who reject their homeland and play at being an ozzie. Even if someone loves living in Oz, I do not understand what is so great about "becoming an Ozzie" - I will admit it is always easier to be what you think someone wants you to be but how would you feel about it when you are on your own and know that you have sold your own past and country away? It takes courage to be yourself, even at the risk of being a figure of curiosity or piss taking, but at the end of the day you get respect and, I think, in the end, people like you more for it. Oz is full of Ozzies - what is so interesting about one more, especially if they are a mock one? When in Rome, do as the Romans, perhaps, but theres no need to exchange your Austin for a chariot and start calling yourself Wilfus Caecilius while you are at it. |
