BUT once I won a holiday to Torremolinos and I just know this is going to sound pompous and if you met me you would know I'm not like that BUT the kind of person that holidays in places like that will definitely like it here IMO. I hate places like all the cheap package sun holidays you get from the UK and I hate it here so I see a parallel. If you’re the kind of person like me that likes skiing holidays in Italy and France. Or visiting places in Europe with a bit of history or even likes state hoping on USA flydrives, or going on UK canal boat holidays then I just can’t imaging you liking it here. Of course some will but I just can’t see it. If this is patronizing then I’m sorry, just stating it as I see it.
3 days in Amsterdam to say goodbye to some friends there
5 nights city break in Budapest
5 nights city break in Salzburg (in January)
3 weeks flydrive to New England in the Fall
Do I love Aus? Yes, absolutely. Everyone's different...that's the beauty of the world

But Arkon, if you are the kind of person who likes skiing, European holidays, USA FLYDRIVES ETC ETC. What on earth possessed you to choose Australia in the first place? A genuine question. Surely you must have done some research and plain common sense would tell you that these things are not in easy reach down here.
As for Australia being like Torremolinos, that is absolute bulldust! You are only comparing it to YOUR local area, which, from what i gather is out in the sticks miles from anywhere and 99.9% of people in Australia do not live your kind of lifestyle or indeed live in similar surroundings to you. Australia is ginormous in every sense. Different geography, different lifestyles. Try telling someone who lives in Sydney that its like a spanish package holiday and they'll laugh in your face. You cannot make sweeping generalisations to people yet to come based on one tiny minute area that you live in which is NOT typical of where most people live out here

Back to the original OP's question on the pro's and con's. I've just got a phone call from england to say my nan has been ill in hospital for 6 days and has just died. Thats a pretty big con if you ask me. I can't go to the funeral and couldn't visit her while she was dying. Something to consider if your leaving elderly family behind.

My condolences to you and your family. That is very sad. And yes, i have had a similar situation 3 times since i left UK and its one of the things you need to think about when making the initial decision to emigrate.
You are incorrect saying most people would think or react the same way you have done to your circumstances. Everyone is different and we all having varying coping mechanisms including ways we deal with stress, trauma and all of lifes irritants and setbacks. In everything we do, we have a choice as to how we react to it. The WAY we react to it often dictates the outcome.
