HI,

We have researched into this a bit. Bought our son a PS2 for Xmas so emailed sony for info. They said all the gaming side is compatible as Oz is a PAL country as is UK. The only thing that won't work is playing dvd's in it. This goes for dvd players too. Uk is region 2 and Oz is region 4 (i think) therefore unless your dvd player is multi region they won't work. I read somewhere that if you take your tv you may not be able to get any sound, although apparently they can be adapted (not sure how much this costs etc). Hope this helps. Good luck with the move!

TV - works fine but you may need to route the connection through a DVB or Foxtel set top box to get the sound to work...

Stereo - fine...

PC - we brought 6, no problems...

Washing machine & dryer - no problems...

PS - no problems...

Video - haven't got one...

DVD - no problems with a multi region one... If you get a new one get a DivX compatible one so if there's any TV programs that you like back home you can download off UKNova, copy straight to DVD and watch... Much easier than buggering about with Video format conversions, juggling space, etc etc...

Definitely remember to bring a bucket load of extension leads... That way you only have to change a few plugs and not spend your first 3 weeks just doing that... Also there'll be some things with the moulded plug and a small transformer that it's easier to have a UK>Oz converter so make sure you bring a fair few of them as well...

Does Oz have PS and Xbox's? Do they them a little earlier (release date) due to the ease to get them across direct from Japan?

Sorry, if I'm going a bit of subject... Just wondered as I was planning to buy most items new, rather than spending £3000 on a container...

Changing regions on DVD players.....

Most DVD players have the ability to change region with a simple code that you type in using the remote, the below site has most of them.

Of course we have Xbox's and Playstations

Don't know if they are released any earlier or not, systems seem a little cheaper but games can be quite costly at around $60 - $70 each (even older ones)

I'm assuming that your location is not quite up to date here...

Try Bunnings or Mitre 10... Don't get fooled with the $4+ ones... There are some at $2+...

We were told our TV wouldn't work but much to our delight it tuned in straight away with no sound or picture problems - about 5 years old and a Samsung. Haven't tried the DVD player yet. Agree with one of the above postings; our washing machine has been a God send - and it uses much less water than the usual top loaders over here. Before coming we saw posts about bringing extension leads and that has been brilliant - saved us loads of hassle wiith changing plugs.

I don't know where you got your info from but UK fridges/freezers work just fine here. I have 2 in my garage, which gets hot, and they work, no problem.

If you've get them, bring them.

fridge/freezer - Left at home, as I thought it wouldn't travel so well.

TV - Some newer models do work OK, but older ones either don't tune in properly or you have no sound. This can be rectified by buying a foxtel box or DVD or Video recorder

Stereo - No problems, just need new plug or adapter

PC - fine, but we treat ourselves and bought new ones when we got here

Washing Machine - We brought ours and bought transit bolts to ensure it wasn't damaged on the long journey (you can get them from the company that makes your washer)

Play station - Games work fine, as they are all PAL, but you can't get around the DVD aspect of the machine

Video player (&videos - will they play on oz equipment) - We brought 1 video recorder, just because I have quite a few videos, and would like to be able to see them at a later date. Although the video may not tune in to AUS channels, as the channels on the player may not go high enough.

DVD player - will play fine in Oz, but if you want to buy DVD's over here they are region 4 compared to UK's region 2. If you buy an Oz DVD player this will be region 4 (or sometimes region 0, which plays all region DVD's) You can get around the region problem though. PM me for details if you want to know more.

As with all electrical items, you will need to get either a new plug put on, or use adapters.
