Electricains licence
I've been granted my visa a while ago and have put my house up for sale. I need to be in oz (Brisbane) by the end of march. I know i will need a licence to get a job (Electrician). I have stated looking into this and see there is about four different categories and not sure if i need a Electrical mechanic or a Electrical fitter licence. I also believe that there is a course that i can do before the required test. Also does anyone know if there is a waiting time for this course and if so can i book onto the course from the uk?
cheers

Hi Ben F. Just for info in Aus an Electrical Mechanic is what is normally called an Electrician (so that's probably the licence you're after), and an Electrical Fitter does stuff like panel wiring, rewinds, machinery repairs, control etc. Or, you can be both if you trained as both - Electrical Fitter/Mechanic.
Good luck!

Re: Electricains licence
hi steve'o
I went through the TRA. I have completed a full apprenticeship and have worked in the trade for 11 years now mostly in a commercial nature.
By looking at what sjo says i will probably want a mechanical licence.
cheers

the tra is for migration only in order to apply for a licence your going to have to go back to the tra and apply for an artc
total bollocks i know but without it your stumped
on a slightly better note it is free to applicants who have previusly been issued a tra cert
have a look at the site above and if you need any help just ask
regards steve
ps you can apply whilst your still in the uk they just wont send the cert overseas so use a mates address
