Election and exchange rates?

Election and exchange rates?
Does anyone on here have an educated opinion on how the reduced majority of the leading party is likely to affect the value of the pound?
A weakening pound could have a serious affect on many people on here, particularly those that have sold houses and are planning to exchange currency. It will affect anybody going anywhere if we see a big decrease in the exchange rate when buying foreign currency...

One things for sure noone can predict what is going to happen with the exchange rate.
Just hope that the British pound stays strong we have to invest the $100,000 soon and need the rate to be in our favour.

A reduced majority will have an effect of the pound? You reckon?
In my capacity as a 'knowing b*gger all about exchange rates', I'd say zero effect. It *was* a labour government, it *is* a labour government. Its still Ol' Gordy doing the economics, and their majority is substantial enough to force through anything they want.
Apart from a war on Iran maybe, or Syria, North Korea etc etc

Re: Election and exchange rates?
Thanks Bed of roses..
Copied this from the Bloomberg site:
"Expansion in services industries slowed, manufacturing contracted and the housing market stagnated, reports this week showed. The pound also was hurt yesterday after Prime Minister Tony Blair's ruling Labour Party won a smaller majority than expected in the country's election.
Demand for the U.K. currency weakened further yesterday after Blair's Labour Party secured a smaller majority in Parliament than forecast. The government's majority was reduced to about 65 seats from 161.
With the reduced majority ``will Blair be there for the totality of the next term?'' said Bob Parker, deputy chairman in London of Credit Suisse Asset Management, which manages about $335 billion. ``With uncertainty you're seeing some moderate selling pressure on sterling.''
I guess we wait and see, but might be worth forum members time checking with their financial advisers if they have one.
It's okay for me, as I've not got the proceeds of a house etc. to transfer...
