Default Election!

In the forthcoming election, the polls put the Labour party ahead of John Howard. Could a government that has been such a success story really be kicked out?

A Labour government in OZ puts me off moving out there a bit. In fact the left wing clowns in charge of UK right now are a big incentive to leave.

Labour government or all left wing governments for that matter are bad for a country. Punishment for crime becomes a joke, taxes go up significantly so those who are lazy need never worry about working again, instead the sit back and laugh at the rest of our expense.

The floodgates are opened to immigrants and I not on about the skilled ones, most of us know its just about anyone who wants to come in.

Now I am expect a lot of people to disagree with me here. Just give me an example of a successful country that has its roots in left wing idealism!

The ALP isn't really left wing in any sense that we would recognise in a British context. It has occupied just about every part of the right - left political spectrum over the years as electoral necessity dictated. Chifley was the only remotely socialist leader they've ever had and when he tried to nationalise something it was successfully challenged in the courts as unconstitutional. There then followed a Liberal landslide and 23 years of opposition for the ALP so I doubt they are keen to flirt with doctrinaire socialism again any time soon.

You are right to be worried. The ALP is going to f**k everything up if they win - which they probably will. They are controlled by unions. Unions dictate their policies. Unfortunately, the younger generation who have never known a recession are going to vote for Labor - and give us a recession we never needed to have. Labor are socialist. If they win expect to see more union power, weaker immigration laws, higher taxes etc.

Apart from the Chinese thing ... a clarification please ... you'd honestly be put-off moving here because of a change in government?

They are all crooks, it's just a matter of spin and degree (meet the new boss, same as the old boss) ... get yerself a Visa and come and enjoy y'eejit!

Do you also expect Rudd to encourage Dog and Cats to live together thus encouraging the destuction of the Ozzie dream? Grow up.

China
Really, well answer me one question: would you want to live there?

As far as I understand 90% of there people are treated worse than ants!

So no success is simply determined in economics and not by any other factors is it?

China sounds like a socialist Valhalla, where was it ranked by the UN?

I can't wait to move there, where do I sign up?

The best thing about a labour government is that they are not Tories

I vote labour in the UK and will continue to do so.

You didn't ask me to specify a country in which I'd like to live. But I'd rather live in China than lots of other places - just about anywhere in Africa for example.

I think this (not the crooks bits) is particularly true in Australia. As there is no need for the parties to get their core vote out, all elections are fought with highly nuanced and very similar positions in the centre ground.

I might be wrong, but wasn't there a worldwide recession on at that time? Maggie was in power in the UK and the recession hit there, so was it really a Labor issue?
