Dunedin within a year (Hopefully)!!
My wife and I and our 2 daughters (aged 6 and 4) are begining to plan our emigration to New Zealand and settle in the Duedin area. This is loosely based on the fact my wife has cousins there, although we are still trying to track them down, and I hope to get a job offer there. I work in IT but am specialising in computer forensics. My wife is an experienced health care assistant and she hopes to get a job too as soon as she can after we arrive.
Questions are:
1. Can anyone recommend and nice area to live within reach of the schools. We are planning to rent first then buy with a budget (I hope) of around £80000.
2. Are there any hospitals where my wife could get work in the area.
3. Is it worth shipping most of our stuff or just send essentials in a few tea chests.
4. On average how much is a single air fair, or does anyone know any good companies/websites.
I'm sure there will be more questions when I think of them but any info would be great. I have the expression of interest form and am waiting to renew my passport to send it off. I would like to think we'll be there by xmas '05, is this realistic.
Cheers in advance

BTW GBP80000 will get a perfectly nice 3 bed house in a good area. Ours cost in the mid NZD 200s - brick, 700 sq m garden, good street in good area(Andersons Bay).

The link seems to be bad though. How do wages compare in IT. Like I mentioned I am hopefully going to work in the computer forensic area which is a bit new and quite specialised therefore may not reflect "standard" IT wages. I know I will take a drop but the location will more than make up for it for us and, mainly, the kids.

perhaps i'll do the usual reply.....
you don't wanna go there, all the kiwis are leaving, the weather is terrible cos'its near Antartica, you will die much sooner cos' all the houses are damp, and if you don't die from that your children will get abused and then commit suicide.Other than that its just OK but Aus is a bazillion times better, infact London and the UK is better than all of them, so take my advice and move to London.Lets face it, 10 million people living there can't be wrong
Dunners is great, although its covered in snow today and its got a bitter southerly wind. But hey, i love it, its got a certain something that makes me feel good.
Don, what are you doing with that house of yours? Is it rented cos' i saw a gang of mongrel mob coming out of it yesterday!I thought it had glass in the windows when you bought it
you might find its gone up 30% in value too, even without the mob in it

Wages: plenty of info on the search links, NZ doesn't pay that brilliantly but as you say there are compensations.
