Default Driving Theory Test

Hi

I read somewhere here that you can try again within the next 24 hours if you fail. Do you have to pay for the retest?

What happens if you've passed the 3 months limit after arrival on a permanent visa? There was so much running around during the first few months, that we kept postponing it, and now.....

Anyone experienced this before?

Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Not sure if this applies in your case, but in WA you no longer have to take a theory test if you have a UK driving licence (and a few other countries I believe). Simply go to a licensing centre, fill in the forms, pay the money and you'll be given a WA licence.

Like I say, no idea if this is relevant to your situation, but just in case...

Yes, you can take it again every 24 hours, but you do have to pay for each theory test you take, but it's not too expensive.
Depending on the State you are in you may not need to take one.

Some people have gone for years before getting around to it But not advised as you may get done by the police, and that is expensive !

The same also applies in Victoria. We arrived here in March and I went to VicRoads expecting to have to arrange a theory test and was told that you no longer have to do this if you have a full UK licence. You just fill in the form, pay the money, have a photo taken and your licence is issued in about 3 minutes. You do need to take ID (passport with visa, + one other ie Medicare card/visa card and proof of address - usually rental receipt or agreement).

It would be wise to get your license ASAP. If you drive and you have an accident your insurance company would love to find a way to wriggle out of paying up. Not having a proper license might be a good excuse.

Hi
From experience in QLD you can take it the following day if you fail......which I did. 3 months is the deadline and you can take it as many times as you like! I fancied 3 goes! No I am not dumb....who said that, was gutted first time I failed anything like that. I went on line RACQFree2Go, and was perfect on every one, cocky old me, what it doesn't do in the online test is a load of questions that are not included! Swot up on the signs, stopping distances etc etc! $15.75 a go! Think on the bright side, they only have 6 different sheets so you are bound to get it right after a while!!! I would suggest that if you do fail, go back the next day! Oh and one other thing, if you are unsure about something, you can ask they do not tell you the answer, but it may help explain something!!
Best of luck, see you on the road!

Go to this website and do the test before going to the centre - I did it several times and passed my test, yesterday with full marks

One thought is if you originally move to WA/VIC and get your new oz license for a small fee, are these valid in other states, ie QLD?

They are valid, as long as you are just visiting. But if you become a resident of that new State, then you need to swap your licence, within 3 months of becoming resident.
This does just literally mean swapping it
No tests, no payment, just some form filling and the new licence will have the same expiry date as the other State licence would have had.

At least that is the rule for moving to QLD. http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/qt/L...estion1#change

Thanks for the tip, had to sit the test 3 times to get my 30 points. must remember to give way to pedestrians at all times, even when they still look like they are stood on the pavement!!
