Re: driving licences
Yes you convert it.
Dont know where your headed but for example here in Queensland you go to the Queensland Transport office and they will do it there and then. Just remember they will take your photo so look pretty...

Re: driving licences
If you're on a temporary visa you can keep your UK driving licence or get a local one. Visit the RTA in NSW for more info -- offices are all over. Quite easy to do.

Re: driving licences
The law in QLD was changed around Dec 2006. before then it was necessary to take theory test beofre getting a QLD licence. Now you just rock up and show your UK licence and pay something like $50 to get a 5 year QLD licence.
457 visa holders are not required to get a local licence, however I would recommend it as it is "perfect" ID with photo, address and signature.

hi
This question was just asked a couple of days ago, I answered it there as well, so you may want to do a search for it.
But in NSW, go to the RTA, take ID with you and the old licence, pay $137 for 5 years and get a new licence there and then. Have to have had your licence for 5 years I think.
Can only drive a car up to 12 seats, anything bigger requires a test.
