Does anyone know how long it takes to get an Aussie driving licence and what Docs u need to get one (without stating the obvious...UK licence and passport!). We are thinking about hiring a camper for a road trip, but need an Aussie licence to get a cheaper deal.....any help would be appreciated

In Queensland you can drive on a full UK license for up to 3 mths as a migrant. Currently, to get a full open QLD license you only need take your written test. http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/qt/L...ys_lo_res.pdf/ This is a basic 30 question test. You can just arrive at the TRansport Office to take it & if you fail can go back every 24 hrs to retake the test until you pass.

Be aware though that as each state has its own Dept of Transport that the driving rules can differ from state to state.

Think the poster is enquiring because the cost of rental is cheaper as a kiwi or Ozzie - when doing the booking we always select as New Zealander but when picking up the car or vehicle have still used our UK license and not been charged a different tariff.

This week in Victoria we needed the following to get a Vic Roads license

Proof of address - rental agreement and some utlity bills
Passport
UK Drivers License (photocard and green copy)
Payment $147 for 10 years $33 or was it $43 for 3 years?

Filled in easy green form (2 pages back and front)
Eye test (can you read the first two rows on the card on the wall behind me?)
Make the payment
Stand in front of camera - smile

12 mins later out the door and on too some late lunch
