hi all,
can anybody tell me or advise me with reguards to driving licenses. im very tempted to live a boy hood dream and buy a lambretta either in oz or here and ship it over with us, but i havent a license. is it easily obtainable / costly etc over there, or can you get it here and just transfer it to an oz license? also does anyone know of any lambretta clubs etc in the brisbane area ? any info or links would be great cheers charlie rara

You need one. Search for the Queensland Transport website, if in QLD.

Cannot help you with the laws, but there is a Lambretta shop in Brisbane, somewhere towards Eagle Farm. Don't see many, but have seen a few little convoys of Lambrettas and Vespa's going around, I reckon they are all british expats.

No Theory Test, or Practical Test, is now required for UK Car or Motorcycle Drivers.

A Queensland Driver licence will cost:
One year : A$27.65
Two year : A$38.50
Three year : A$49.35
Four year : A$60.20
Five year : A$71.05

Without a Motorbike licence already, you will begin with a Learner licence, then go onto a Provisional before getting the Open licence.

Have a look at Q-Ride

Charlie do a search for Brisbane Lambretta club on Yahoo groups,I was a member for a short time but it wasnt really what I was looking for-the other problem is that most members are south of the city so its a fair drive just to meet up and wasnt really what I was looking for(wanted to be 18 again on the beer etc etc)Whatever you do dont buy a Vietnamese or any far east country restoration.Ask for a bloke called Dibsy on the BLC nice bloke tell him Al sent ya.Got a modern Vespa myself now but probably selling it to get a bike

Have a look on here http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/Home...t_us/By_place/

You will need your passport, current UK driving licence and proof of address like rental agreement, utility bill or bank statement.

Oh and do your makeup they take your picture at the office when you put your form in

Not necessarily a bank statement but some kind of proof, we only arrived a week ago and are staying in a holiday let so have no proof of address so we can't change our licences over yet. I discovered this after standing in the transport office queue for half an hour! That was a fun afternoon

Identification requirements for driving licence in Queensland:

http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/Home..._requirements/

The easier ones maybe...
  • Australian or foreign passport
  • Medicare card.
  • Financial institution debit or credit card with your signature and embossed name (must show full first name).
  • Evidence of Queensland residential address can be your current rental document.
  • If you are genuinely unable to show a proof of QLD address document, you may complete the Queensland Residency Declaration (F4208). http://www.support.transport.qld.gov...tforms/QF4208/

I am not sure how strict they are on ID, but I used my UK credit card as identification.

Basically:
  • Passport with PR Visa,
  • Rental Document
  • and Credit/Debit card
will appear to do the trick.

It's only for ID, nothing to do with vehicular competence
