Question Driving from Brissie to Mackay for the first time, some questions

Hello all!

In early January, we will drive from Brissie to Mackay with a stop at Gladstone. Some questions, we appreciate it if you could shed a light on them:

- Brissie-Gladstone is a longer distance than Gladstone-Mackay, so we decide to start the Brissie-Gladstone portion of our trip at a sooner time of the day e.g. 5:00 O'clock. Is there any danger of hitting roos at 5:00 A.M. when we start from Brissie?

- Although we have a small car, it's fuel consumption recently has been rather high, so we are wondering if there are enough petrol stations from Brisbane to Mackay? Is there any map for petrol stations in that area?

- How we can check if the road is not flooded?

Thank you

You could probably fly there more cheaply. If you really need to go there.

Plenty of fuel stops everywhere on the East Coast as for roos - I expect by the time you are 'bush' they'll be asleep. Rockhampton doubles up as a wildlife park - drive through slowly and keep the doors locked.

Why are you coming to Mackay? Are you bringing me emergency culture?

It's light at 04.30 & sunrise is before 05.00 so not much chance of hitting any roos. Your first 2 hours are motorway so by the time you get to the top end of the Sunny coast [Gympie] it will be past 07.00. It's been wet for a while now & the grass has greened up nicely, that usually keeps the roos away from the edge of the highways [plenty of food elsewhere]

There are plenty of fuel stations on the highway, usually they're about an hour apart from Gympie up to Gladstone.

You can tell if it's not flooded because there'll be no water on it. Seriously the RACQ website posted above will inform you of any potential flooding.

Ahhh the state capital-centric news driven mentality.....
Apparently there are people living outside Brisbane that don't use a horse and cart and use a new fangled internal combustion engine invention!
As long as you stay in your car and don't talk to anybody, I am sure you will be quite safe....

I'd stop in tannum sands rather than Gladstone it's got a great pub. I used to do the trip in 4 1/2 hrs on a full tank not much to see in between.

you have more chance of hitting bearded bogans walking home after a night out at that time
watch out for mullets darting out from bushes

you can tell if a road is flooded by looking to see if there is any any water on it
