May I ask what speed you were doing and where? A few km's over the limit IS harsh.
Acting like a hoon, bombing down the freeway, thinking you're Schumacher, etc... then those people should get fined.

The fine not carrying your licence was harsh though.

funniest thing (though wasn't at time as we were so p'd off with ticket) was cops helpful 'guide' to other common offences by UK drivers: u-turns at traffic lights (hubby's slightly paranoid response here: 'why are you bringing that up?'!!) and speeding...most grateful for that!

Which state is that?

I checked for Vic a while back and you only have to carry your licence if you're under 25.

Victoria have changed slightly and now say:
All drivers are required to have their licence with them when they drive, but from January 2007 it is now an offence if drivers under the age of 26 cannot produce their licence to police when required to do so.
and: If a driver under the age of 26 who has a licence but does not have it with them while driving or in charge of a motor vehicle, they may face fines of $537.

I am still pondering the fact that you must carry your licence, in Victoria, even when over 26, but it isn't an offence unless you are under 26

Yes, did it yesterday. Sent a parcel containing a photo, a birthday card and an SD card. Had to fill out a customs declaration and was required to provide photo ID. There you go.

Parcel at AusPost shop to UK. I am asked when it is weighed what is in it and then given the customs form to fill in.

Quote from Aust Post website:
You will be required to show identification when sending international articles, as per federal security requirements

just wondering..if our license is not converted to Vic license..are we still be able to drive? or do we call that "illegal driving"..

is there a system in Vic that link our passport and driving license? means when we r stopped by police, can they check from our name/passport that we do not have a valid license? if yes, whats the penalty? fine only or our license will be suspended..or could our visa be suspended as well

just curious...

I knew they brought in the new laws for under 26 in 2007 but I'm perplexed about the requirement to carry over 25. I did my Medium Rigid test at the beginning of 2008 and in that test there was a question about carrying your licence. The rule being that you only have to carry your licence if you venture more than 80k from your base (or go interstate).

I suspect it's a bit of loose wording. When I checked about 4 years ago I found a table that did show which states required you to carry the licence but also showed the percentage of people who thought that you had to carry it (or not). There was a big disparity between the requirement and the thought.
