Default Driving Across Australia-Advice Needed

We will soon be driving back from Queensland to Perth going the Coastal route along the Great Ocean Road. Don't know from South of Byron along the coast apart from the Major cities and would appreciate any beautiful places to stop at, camp at etc on the way. Will have 2 dogs with us so National Parks are out but aside from that-fire away !

Where's Mallacoota ?

Port Fairy sounds a good choice-and is friendly. Which Torquay is not !

You do realise that's over 10,000km and will take you about a month?

Do you mean drive from Brisbane to Perth direct or round the coast? Direct can be done in 2 days if you go 24/7 at it, round the coast down through Sydney, Melbourne, Gt Ocean Rd, Adelaide, Esperance, Albany, Margeret River, Bunbury Perth is a massive journey and would take a week going 24/7 at it

Mallacoota is lovely, but try to avoid it in school holiday season, it gets PACKED. It is a little coastal town with lakes and beaches and is beautiful. My parents had a house there until recently, sulk, we were going to live there for as long as our money held out once the OH got his visa!

Yes stay at Pt Fairy, great scenic little fishing village and great beach and Halls Gap in the Grampian Mountains national park 1 hour north is worth staying at also, great moutnain scenery and plenty of wildlife, Kanagroos and even wild deer.

5,638 km – about 2 days 22 hours from Google maps (well, what do you know?!) however that is knocking off the bit south of Perth and going straight across. And that is without pit stops of course!

Interesting, should be a good journey.

Would not know where to start. Travelling in this country you meet so many interesting people. We just missed the bushfires, hit 43 degrees in Adelaide with winds that were burning, drove through dust storms you could not see in front of (even the truck driver at the next Servo said to me "phew we all made it through that " !!) but best of all-we are home, back in WA
