Oh! Take her!! You can bring her back with you and she will be fine-it will not be too hard to find somewhere to live with her. Take her!!!!
Originally posted by Rosie n family I know it breaks my heart. My mum is gonna have her but the kids are quite upset, we will probably stay at least a year but we are quite unsure of where we are gonna go (Sydney area) and have no place to stay yet. If things work out and we settle quickly Mum could get her sent out, we just had to make a decision and my Mum really loves her and wants to have her. The worst thing is if we come back it would be unfair to take her back as she would be used to Mum, its not an ideal situation |
I cant NOW! can I? we fly out on the 25 june! If we came back would ther be quarantine? No, i couldnt I havent looked into it My mums really looking forward to it, dont give me options AGGH Isnt it always the way you decide something then have your doubts, question it then feel really unsure about the decision...? If we do settle there it would be so lovely to have her there but we really don't know...

You made your decision with her interests at heart stick to it knowing she will be well looked after:) good luck with the move:) |
Thank you. learning to stick by my decisions is difficult, also I'm at work so mustn't get all weepy now!

i may be completely off the mark here but i am sure NZ don't have the same quarantine rules from uk.
why don't you send them there then move them across:) it is a dilema, our dog is 11 so potentially 12 when we go. what to do? she is really lively (springer spainel) for her age. the kids would be gutted if she does not come and i am sure she would pine, however i am not keen on subjecting her to the whole process. especially knowing my luck, she would only last a few weeks and i would have an expensive vet bill into the bargain. :D |
there are as i see it 3 things to consider
the cost of shipping the animal including quarantine and vet bills the fact that once you are living here and thinking in dollars that the transportation costs then seem really huge, if you are earning $30k per year $5k on shipping your dog is a lot could you justify it if you return to the uk the animal will have to be quarantined for 6 months or will have to have the rabies shot here and then travel 6 months later. happy decision making lynn |
Re: dog to Oz
Originally posted by KatieStar I was hoping one of you may be able to advise me. We have a dog and are planning on moving out to Oz later in the year. Has anybody transported a dog to Oz and if so what was it like and how did it affect the dog? Thanks in advance From Katie:) Now I'm flying him somewhere else! He didn't seem to worry at all. We did it with thepet passport scheme to UK. Just be aware that the eastern seaboard of Oz has paralysis ticks. You have to treat your dog often with Frontline. you must check regularly for ticks as they kill. But it is a great country all the same. |

Im sure its Frontline we use here in the for ticks. We get lots from the deer so were used to that,
Really? no quarantine on the way back with the Pet passport. No stop it I cant take her now - She's really happy with my mum and the kids will get used to her not being there -busy with their new life...... |
No, no quarantine if up to date with rabies vaccine (within 6 months). Does it really cost that much to ship a dog to Oz? But anyway, even if it does-is it not a two way agreement when you take on an animal? No animals should be taken on by people if they are planning a big move and would not take them with them. Did the dog have a say in this? No, unfortuantely not.

what? you mean if I am really stressed at my dog having quarantine for 30 days, I can fly to NZ with him... have no quarantine... then go to Oz with him?? only thing is coming up with $ to stay in NZ for 6 mos. but sounds better to me than being without him for 30 days!!:D

Re: dog to Oz
Thanks for all your replies. After spending a few months deliberating what to do, Tims mum and dad have agreed to take our dog Holly so she wont have to go through the stress of the move. She has gone to her new home already, as all being well our house sale will go through in a few weeks. I know it is for the best but I miss her.
