Does anyone have any suggestions !
Im finding it really hard to find permanent work that fits around my children, in the uk i worked for the NHS for 6 years and have been doing similar work here but its not fitting in with my children or my husbands job as he has been told he will be working away a lot this year so i need a 9 till 5 job that isnt casual as i am sick of paying money out on child care to find they dont need me, I would really like a change of career but every job i see wants you to have experience, how can you get that when no one wants to give you a chance, so i would be really grateful if theres anyone out there who can point me in the right direction cheers colleen

No worries. I mention it because my wife has worked at one of the BNE Unis for some years now. In that time she has worked in a number of different roles and different departments and usually found they are flexible enough to provide hours that suit her which allow her to drop the kids in before school care but be home by 3PM.
Unis being quite heavily unionised and large employers, and often enlightened employers, seem to be good places for working mothers in our experience. They also often have "temp" panels and offer both casual and permanent employment usually with very good super and often a few other perks even for part timers.
Also, our Uni has child care (I think subsidised) on site. They also run a very good vacation care program, recognising that a lot of their staff (and some of their students) are working mothers.
