It is indeed a fact that us Cornish do tend to drop H's - or is that aitches ? - from the beginning of words.
In actual fact Da Boss gives me grief cos she says since being in Aus I have reverted back to a very broad Cornish accent.
But I'm appy to be an ethnic minority

We're a couple of hours North of Brisbane supposedly heading towards the warmer climes of northern QLD. Whilst S E Brisbane probably doesn't suffer often from frost we certainly do here as Deb can testify to scraping the frost from the windscreen of the truck at 6.30am on Friday
. There's a few reasons why, one being the fact that bay-side is exactly as it's name suggests & close to the warming sea breezes, we're 30k as the crow flies inland another reason is we're approx 200m above sea level. That said apart from Friday when I just couldn't get warm all day I can honestly say I've hardly felt cold here, if it gets a bit chilly in the evening I put on a sweater and some woolly work socks. The house we're in has no heating at all and to be honest it hardly varies by more than a degree or two in any 24hr period [my dad watches the maximum-minimum thermometer like a hawk as part of his master brewer duties
] I'd guess it's probably because we have excellent insulation in the roof and walls. Our own place that's under construction will have a nice log burner but only because it's even further up the hillside and is a high-set. It's a cheap way of heating the place for the few weeks of the yr we actually need to.

Yes I think that you definately acclimatize...........
Its been 18 degrees here some days and I have worn a beanie hat and scarf as i have felt a chill.
Today it was 14 degrees here and I had layers of clothes on, its so strange cos if it was 18 degrees in UK we would have a t-shirt on
plus on a night its soo cold with no central heating, you really feel it then when the temps drop to around 5, i really didnt ever think I would be as cold as this in Oz..........
We are off to Port Douglas to get warm, we fly on Friday, cant wait, I need sun..........
