On the list of restricted items - meaning allowed in but subject to close inspection and/or treatment - wooden articles incl cane.
From what I gather cane can be prone to infestation, thus higher risk of it being a problem item

take it at your peril....... we had a small (about 50cm) cane rainmaker (ornament) which had slipped into one of the boxes by mistake. We were charged $50 for its disposal or given the option of paying $250 for its treatment. If I were you I would sell it and buy again over here if you want cane again.

We took heed of all the dire warnings and didn't bring a very expensive rattan set of casual dining things.
Regretted it ever since! The cost of having it treated would be a lot less than the cost of a new set less the pittance we sold it for in the States! Plus, the quality would be lower.
I would go for it - but don't let anyone know!

we had to get the manufacturers and retailers to produce a letter stating it had been treated against infestation, then send copies of the letter and pics of the table and chairs to customs:

then also send the docs with the container paperwork - easy... all sent smooth as...

I would not risk it just in case they put it in quarantine and it cost you alot of money.
Had movers round and they pointed out that we could not take small wicker baskets with us just in case they had to go into quarantine.

I get the feeling that a lot of the warnings originating from movers is more to do with making it easy for them rather than looking after 8your* interests.
Let's face it, anything (almost) can be brought in if it's declared. Just look at the vast amount of stuff imported from Asia to the retailers. If it has to be treated then so be it.
