Default do PR's get any kind of child benifit?

Hello

just wondering, if you are a PR of Aussie but not a citizan, can you qualify for any child benifit when you have kids? I know you are entitled to the $3000 when your baby is born, but do you get anything after that, or is that it???

Hope someone knows this?

Hello,

Just so you know - the family benefit doesn't have the 2 year restiction like other benefits.

Is congratulations in order?

Regards
Alistair

It is generally better to wait until you have PR. Not only because of the extra benefits (no benefits at all for temporary visa holders) but:

- child will be a citizen if you have PR when it's born. No Australian citizenship (by birth) if you're not.
- If you do not have PR, any medical problems the child may have could remove any prospects of you obtaining PR.

I think that was Brian's "oh-so-delicate" way of saying "Don't have kids, watch TV instead" LOL

(We have 4)
