Another note is in the UK OFTEL have defined broadband as 512k or above not 256k which is what is touted as broadband in Oz

BP - I'm being recommended TPG as the best deal and most reliable service for ADSL/broadband connection from home. Its the $99 version with unlimited whatever.
Now that doesn't appear to be the same deal you had issues with...or is it.
As the company will be coughing the bill I guess I'm not too bothered so long as the access is always there.

They have changed the terms and conditions on my account and refused a refund that I am due from the conditions when I signed up.
TPG also use something called a transparent proxy which is good for general browsing but has a habit of confusing other protocols. The deal I had was the dialup unlimited for $17 a month.

It's probably because you are a Bondi resident. I'm conviced they'll see me as a more desirable Maroubra type

Well clearly his wife did.
She's shacked up in Maroubra Seals knocking back Bacardi Breezers like a veteran now you know.
Well maybe not - but you need your dreams don't you.

famous for
High pings
Awful customer service
Failed diallups that cost 20c a go
Lots of disconnections
Very bad support
They are cheap for a reason and end up costing you anyway.
Just went to cancel the service and they will not refund any of the money I have paid in advance not event the money paid beyond the 1 month cancellation period.
Anyway I have posted this on whirlpool so hopefully my actions will deny them way more than the 34 dollars the ***s are stealing from me.

Or perhaps it is just the Sydney exchange, but here in Brisbane TPG is good.. no drop outs, only get disconnected after 4 hours.. customer support is good, polite and will always answer a query by e-mail too.
Sounds as if you are unlucky with your "dial ups and bad customer service" etc as we have been with them for years and would recommend them for the Brisbane area. Absolutely no probs at all.

Yep, customer services can be a little tricky, as always some people good some bad that you speak too.
Good luck with your search.

Maybe the phone line but the intermittent nature and tendancy to happen during peak hours is more telling.
A crappy 40kbs connection speed and slow downloads were also frustrating. They are not as bad as Telstra but I am battling over the changes to the terms and conditions.
Anyway I am on broadband weh heh.
