Do not buy an Acer PC from Wow Sight n Sound Maroochy

Just a warning. We purchased a new Acer PC from Wow Sight and Sound in Maroochy. It stopped working after 4 days (hard drive packed up). As we were both working we didn't get a chance to contact Wow until the weekend (7 days after purchase). Guy we speak to says Wow's policy is to only exchange it within the first 7 days, after that we have to contact Acer directly.
Bit miffed but call Acer support; even before we state whats happened the guy tells my husband "its the harddrive, I'll order a new one someone will call and fit it within the next 24hrs" - so we wait, and wait - no phonecall, nothing. Its now 2 weeks! Call Acer again - "yeah mate the parts on order, we'll call you" - again nothing
Call Wow today - understandably angry. State I want to speak to the manager, if its a common problem then why sell the PC in the first place? Manager comes on the phone, doesn't apologise just says casually "yeah box it up, bring it in we'll exchange it for another Acer".
So after all that, I could have exchanged it - I just needed to shout down the phone??? one thing to mention is they also won't give you a refund, even if the products faulty!
Everything we have purchased in Australia has been faulty, missing bits or stops working after a month or so! Crazy!

Nothing wrong with Acer, it's one of the top selling brands in the UK. Over here the shops all sell the build up shit with absolutely no quality control measures in place.
As to WOW sight and sound, Maroochydore - They are talking out of their arses, you have consumer rights here just like you do in the UK. Your contract is with them (WOW) and not Acer (Acer has the contract with WOW or their suppliers). You'll probably have spoken with some thick shit on the shop floor who doesn't have a clue about consumer rights.
I'd have a look on the Queensland government site and find out who deals with these matters (prob Office of fair trading) and give them a call.
Believe me, I've looked into this already as I used to work for a local PC reseller who tried all these tricks on with their customers. Most aussies accept the crap the shops give them and never question their rights.

Goodguys, harvey normans, betta electrical etc etc etc...
Or venture down the highway towards brissy, come off at north lakes, 1st or 2nd junction after Morayfield.. and into Kipparing... some good stores there, inc WOE Sight Unseen ( Wow Sight and Sound ).. actually not a bad store..
Or come down another junction to Kallangur, and head west towards Petrie... and goto Westfields, etc.. or along a bit further on the Gypie Rd and theres the mega centre at Chermside...
With all of the electrical retailers dotted inside and inbetween

Of course you have statutory Sale of goods act , as in uk.. but if you just want the item looked at or fixed.. then most stores are just a glass window filled with muppets, who pass you from pillar to post

Mate you will find, if after 7 days there is a fault with an item, you are covered by the manufacturers warranty..

I'd have taken the PC back to WOW and made a real noise in front of the customers who were purchasing goods. In that particular WOW the service desk is right next to the checkout tills.
We bought an Xbox 360 from there and it went wrong 3 times in a week, each time they mumbled something about sending it back to Microsoft. I had none of it and we got a new one each time. If you stand your ground you'll get what you want in the end.

Most stuff is made of inferior quality in China and falls apart within days or even hours. When you try to exchange it or get a refund, they look at you like you're stupid and try and fob you off!
1st suit I bought here.....$750 - not cheap.....seam came apart whilst trying it on at home...took it back 2 days later to find they had a no refund/ no exchange policy! Went mental and was put on the phone to Area Manager in Sydney. Do you know what he said??? ' Why didn't you bring it back sooner'!!!! FFS :curse: reluctantly got my refund and stomped out of the shop never to return!
Something we've gotta learn to live with I think!

It's up to WOW to sort it out with Acer - not the customer. The contract is very clearly between the customer and the supplier (in this case WOW), they make profit and this profit allows for things such as faulty goods. You are right about the muppets of course, even the managers of these places are thicko's who know nothing (nor care) about the customers rights.

The go here, seams to me to be, pass the problem to someone else..
Whilst i totally agree in law what your saying must be true, in practise.. it gets to the point, you need to threaten a slot on 60 minutes to get any action !

Anyway, it looks to me like tillysmum wants to buy a new laptop, I didn't see anything about a faulty HD.
Fact is that it seems all the crap comes to Australia to be sold, you'll see stuff advertised that was sold in the UK 2 or 3 years ago (they still see plasma TV's as cutting edge). Don't anyone be under the illusion that you'll get the latest technology here, you'll have to fly over to Hong Kong or Singapore for that.
