Default diving International Coastal Clean (mornington)

for the divers out there.

Calling all volunteers!!!

This weekend is International Coastal Clean Up and once again Harbour Dive, sponsored by Project AWARE, will be participating by hosting a clean up at Mornington Harbour.

In previous years we have focused not only on cleaning up rubbish & marine debris from our local harbour, we have also used this as an opportunity to remove the local marine pest “Northern Pacific Seastar”. However, Mornington Pier and surrounds has been lucky enough to escape attack from these pests so our main foucs this year is to be marine debris. ie: fishing line, squid jigs, along with rubbish such as tin cans, bottles etc.

We will be meeting at Mornington Pier at 9:30am in the car park. Anyone wishing to participate will need to sign in at the table set up by Harbour Dive. This will be located centrally in the car park.

We require volunteers in all areas:

SCUBA Diving
Freediving
Ground Crew for hauling rubbish from divers
Ground Crew for collecting rubbish within the area above water
BBQ cookers (the most important!!)
Sign-in helpers
We would also greatly appreciate the donations of any butchers and bakers who might be able to help out with sausages and bread for the BBQ.

A Sausage sizzle will be on offer throughout the day for all volunteers. We will be asking for a $1:00 donation per sausage, with all proceeds to be donated to Project AWARE.

Free airfills will be given to all those who participate on the day. Please also remember that we will have a limited number of catch bags for loan, please bring your own if you have one.

If you wish to participate, please reply to this email or ring one of the Harbour Dive Crew on 5973 5356, so that we may have an idea of numbers for the day.

This is always a fantastic day, with fun had by all and we would love to see as many of you there as possible! Remember, as Scuba Divers we are the natural ambassadors of the Aquatic World, so lets get in there and help clean it up

Thumbs up Re: diving International Coastal Clean (mornington)

Wow - wish I was there to lend a hand, mind you not a diver but a dab hand and lugging stuff.

Will be looking out for this post or similar next year when we have landed.

Paula (and Heath)

Oh, having a month holiday in Thailand - thinking of learning to dive, do you know of any schools for complete beginners in Thailand? Thought we would have a taster to see if this could be our new Oz Hobby!!

Hope you had a good one Rob - will definitely be on for future events of this type.

Did my own personal clean up of Pagham beach, West Sussex, last week and even got some underwater photos of crabs mating!
