Exclamation Did You Know Rabbits Are A No No In Qld?

On a recent trip to Brisbane I found out that pet rabbits are a big no no!!. They are considered pests :scared: .

Before we came over to Oz we promised the kids they could have a pet rabbit, luckily for them we are in Sydney where they arn't banned!! But for all those parents who have promised the same, heading for Queensland, its time for a re-think

The crazy thing is that they still sell cuddly toy rabbits and the like in the toy shops. You'll just have to settle for a pet goanna

Wasnt the rabbit thing in qld to do with the disease mexamatosis, some aussie will know but there is a genuine reason for it I believe.

Theres loads of laws that seem funny to outsiders, like not being able to take bananas interstate but theres always a reason behind it.

it's due to the fact they breed like ,well rabbits isn't it,mixamatosis is a man made remedy to get rid of rabbits, and just think,150 years ago there were no rabbits here, now there's 400 million?

you cant have hamsters in QLD either - on a recent trip to LA, my partner held/saw his first ever live hamster

I think there's a list on the QLD gov website about what pets you can and cannot have.

Yep then they get to plague proportions and cause farmers a loss of crop and money.

Is it just Q/L?? we're allowed them here.

Just a thought though?? Do you reckon the wild rabbits stop at the NSW/ QL border??

Can rabbits swim the Tweed river? The main reason there aren't Cane Toads down here.

Maybe there's a special rabbit border control where their passports are checked?
