Default Did you clear out using EBay?

Now that panic is about to set in (No, not really panic, more like...........
OK then, panic will do)

More and more "rubbish" is turning up by the minute. Some of it we can take, but all the accumulated posessions of the last xxx years are worth a few pounds so it makes sense to sell them.

The Friday Ads free ads have worked on some things.

Question: who has used Ebay for their clearance, and how successful was it? Is there so much hassle what with setting up the items, monitoring the bidding and clearing cheques/posting the items that it's not worth the trouble?

Be grateful for your feedback on this one!

IMO the pros & cons with Ebay are

Pros;
stick the ad up, sit back and relax till someone bids their little hearts out
everything all for sale in one place
all automated & new ebay helps track sold/selling/pending etc easier

Cons;
people dont pay you quickly/at all
ebay charges you
paypal charges you
numerous trips to the post office
numerous trips to the bank to cash cheque (I state I wont post without cheque clearing, but I did because I couldnt always make it to the bank quick enough)

I gave up in the end, just sold a few 'decent' items on it and put the rest in car boot - made more money that morning than probably a week on ebay with a lot less hassle too.

Just my opinion!

We sold an oven and they paid for it when they picked it up. Might be worth it for bigger items. I might sell some smaller stuff, but haven't got round to it yet, must admit it can take a while to get the description ready and put the photos up, but you learn how to do it. You can also copy other people's descriptions if they're for the same thing.

Much what I thought!

I have bought once from EBay, but never sold.

We have such a lot of stuff to dispose of - including a Tunturi treadmill and recumbent bicycle which each weigh as much as a semi - that the EBay option seems like a good idea if it works well and doesn't take up all my time.

Did several car boot sales in the winter when we sold up in the States, and made a small fortune. But then the Americans all ahve large fortunes to spend, and a Limey accent counts as a Unique Selling Proposition!

Still interested in how people got on with EBaythough

Well I have sold all our unwanted items - made well over £1000. Yes you are charged by ebay but you get so much more than at a car boot - and frankly I hate doing them and cackers offering you 2p for something!

As for Paypal charging they don't charge for withdrawls over £50 - so you just wait till it goes over that amount.

The thing that sells really well on there are kids clothes - in fact any clothes with a good label. I have been selling them in bundle and they have been going for around £50 a time. It beats taking them to the charity shop and not even getting a smile

I have also sold some big items on there like a wardrobe and a rocking chair and a big persian rug - people have driven from all over to collect things.

..so yes I would reccomend this way of selling. The people at the post office don't half look at me funy though - I think they might think I am running some stange business!

Good Luck - we have got hardly anything left here - never been so clutter free.

I love EBAY. I've made a bit of money on it selling aload of cack I had arround the house and buying the odd thing I see cheap that I know will sell for more on EBAY. My MIL who is in Australia sent me over a "few" pairs off UGG boots when everyone was wearing them and we made £70 a pair, not bad for a quick trip down the post office.

Only thing is all the money was sitting in the paypal account and hubby managed to spend it all on things he found on EBAY.

I've made tons of money on Ebay, selling some junk and loads of kids clothes. Some of my clothes went, books, videos, you name it.
Can be a hassle going to the Post Office all the time. I tend to put stuff on in 2 weekly cycles, so I get a chance to catch up with myself. And I don't put more than 15 items on at a time.
Try it with a couple of things. It's great watching the bidding wars.

Thats true - I've put a couple of 'decent' things on there and just watched them climb from 99pence close to £100

Hi
I've just sold a couple of things on Ebay, and although it seemed a bit complicated at first, I think I'll persevere because it's been quite profitable.
I had an old car membership badge which sold for £282.00!!

Unusual things seem to go really well on ebay as you are reaching a much wider audience. Example in his youth my husband was a bit of a beetle (VW) fanatic and has amassed hundreds of bits of beetle as he intended to build his own. He has put some of these on ebay today and already they are bidding and outbidding and outbidding again. But I know what you mean about packing it all up and sending it, it's a nightmare. I got all my 7" singles out of the loft today, I'm not taking them with me but not sure I can be bothered to put them all on individually, then pack them up and send them all for the sake of probably a pound an item. Mind you there's over 300 so it's a lot of money. Do I or don't I?

Just the kitchen sink to put on there then that's the lot! I have sold loads on e-bay and it has been great, anything from a CD right up to exercise bike, huge armchair etc!

I swear by ebay and currently have quite a bit on there:

My stuff for sale!

feel free anyone to bid on my items

Regards

Hi
Just wanted to say that I think e-bay is wonderful. My husband sold all of our junk (I mean our rare and collectable items!!!!!!!!!!!!) and made enough money for us (my husband, son and I )to spend May in Greece - accommodation, flights and spending money. He worked hard at it, watching prices and making sure that his photos and write-ups were persuasive and high quality so it wasn't easy but he did brilliantly. Also ensured that he posted items quickly in order to build up a good reputation. I'm really pleased anyway!
Susan
