Easiest (and cheapest) option is to get a redirection to a friend or relative, then they can just send on - or scan and email - what you really need. Saves a load of UK junk mail finding its way here, when you'll already be knee-deep in the Aussie stuff.

if you are re-directing from your own address then it might be an idea to sign up for the Mail Preference Service first as it vastly cuts down the amount of junk mail you receive and will therefore be forwarded on.

I'm sure someone here mentioned something cunning before about shopping online, sending it to your old (UK) address and then it'll be sent on to Oz at no further cost than your original re-direction fee haha!!

According to the Royal Mail website, they won't forward on anything containing goods to an overseas address, because a customs declaration form won't have been filled in.

Is there any mail you can’t redirect?
Yes, we can’t redirect the following:

[...]
Parcelforce Worldwide products, and other carriers’ mail
[...]
Special Delivery™ 9.00am and Recorded Signed For™ items to a Redirection address abroad
[...]
International mail – any item bigger than Letter format over 25mm thickness and over 100g that clearly contains goods, cannot be redirected abroad
Any Letter format items or Large Letter format items obviously containing printed-paper up to 25mm thickness and 100g cannot be redirected abroad

Can't remeber how much it cost but we got ours redirected to a friend in Sydney. Initially we paid for 3 months then we extended it online for a further 3 months using our credit card (they send you a letter which gives details of ho to extend it online)

We had ours done for about 6 months sure it was about £60-£70 cant really remember, and we had everything come through including packages!!

Highly worth it as if you were as disorganised as us there where people/things we forgot to deal with and so when we got it here in Oz we were still able to ensure we had covered everything!!

Yea ... thru the Post Office ... cost me about £70 for a year and with the exception of some Xmas cards last year I think we got everything (inc junk mail ... so good advice about that in the posts ...)
