Hi All
Anyone know what the demand/competition is like for this type of work in Brisbane?
A week after I get back from the UK after attending my brothers funeral, I'm told sorry but have to make you redundant, not good news at anytime, but this is really bad timing.
Anyhow I blitzed all the usual job sites at the weekend and sent about 13 applications off with still a few more to go.
Just wondering if anyone knows what the competition is like, will there be about 200 going for each of these jobs or more like 20?
Or better still does anyone know any companies that might have vacancies.
Thanks
Showdan

Most employers/agencies will want you to be here before they consider you. Some might be interested if they know you are arriving within a few weeks of enquiring.
Good luck.

Sorry I wasn't very clear, I am here (Brisbane) and have been for just over two and a half years (permanent Visa) and have been working with this same company since I arrived.

Overall I think its picking up - I was at the Oil & Gas show in Perth last week and its looking like the gas will be bigger than mining. But that doesn't help your immediate situation.
If you have been working a particular field, i.e. building design, pipelines, some type of process industry, I would try phoning similar employers direct to see if they have any positions. When our company has been busy, we have taken new CAD staff on in this way. Saves advertising costs and agent fees.

A lot of CAD jobs in Sydney are very sepcific on what experience you have. Perth is getting better but many jobs want a university degree basically the day and age of cowboy draftys is over.
