Default Dental charges

My local dentist wants $1,100 for a crown for a molar.
To up my health insurance to cover is $160/month and a 12-month waiting period.

Anyone know if all dentists charge about the same in Brissie? Is it worth shopping around?

Andrew

My crowns have cost about $1000 each - seems reasonable

the University of Queensland has a dental school that does stuff, not sure what it includes but you could always enquire as it should be cheaper.

I just had a quote for £400 for a molar crown, so not much difference. I'm chickening out though. The tooth he filled at the front is now sensitive and it was fine before. (ok maybe I'm just a wimp)

£190 for a gold crown on the NHS for hubby last week! Think he better get the others done before we move. Daughter has got to have a brace fitted in November so will start saving for the cost of dental visits in aus now

Bl**dy Hell!!! I complained about paying £80 for my last molar crown. Cant believe it's so expensive, be cheaper coming back every few years just for a dental check up. As for braces - better hope the kids never need them.

I wonder why my quote of £400 for a crown couldn't be done on NHS. Maybe because I wanted a white one.

Sounds about the going rate for a crown I have just had one and it set me back close to $1500.

It's bad isn't it? i've not got the best teeth myself (they look OKbut they're not great

we are just willing our daughters last tooth through on an 'even balance' otherwise it's cost

however... we would happily to pay to sort her teeth out as i always regret not having a nice set when i smile!! it's something you have to live with for the rest of your life

well looking at these costs i'm well and truly buggered then.
at least youve all got teeth i have only 11 that ever actually grew from my baby teeth falling out (something i inherited not just too many sweets, and have implants, bridges and all sorts going on in my mouth and thats after a bone graft...... better start saving for some dentures me thinks as some are failing and falling out as they were a trial when i had them many years ago and dont even use these types anymore
