debt
has anyone moved to oz leaving debts behind in the uk and not paid them off? Did anyone ever come knocking on your door or track you down?
Just a thought......when you're trying to take as much money as possible with you.
Cheers

Re: debt
As said above this has been discussed before - have read many posts on this issue!
The thing thats stopped me doing what some people have suggested (i.e. not paying back debts) is what the future consequences could be - what if it all goes tits up when you're in Oz and you need to come back? And worst what if you NEED some credit to get you through? If you've defaulted before, you won't get a decent rate for a loan/ credit card, or even just not get any credit at all.
There is a moral issue here as well - the people paying for you not paying off your debt will be others who take credit through a higher interest rate.
Please don't read this as being judgemental in any way, just some advice.

Re: debt
It depends how much you owe and to whom. If it's a tax matter and you owe it to HMRC then they will hunt you into the next life. If it's unsecured debt then it depends how much you owe. Eventually your debt will be sold and, if it's worth their while, the new owners of the debt will start doing proximity checks on your family and employers, etc. All it needs is for one person to slip up and they will then sell your debt again to somebody in Australia who is in a position to collect. I guess it would have to be 10s of thousands before they go to these efforts though.
I salute your honesty at not saying this is a 'friend' who is considering this.

Re: debt
If anyone has any friends who wouldnt mind taking my debt on i would be much obliged
Maybe some of these people who ask on behalf of their friends do it bacause their friends are illiterate or maybe not computer friendly and do it for the love of their friends and out of the kindnest of their hearts

Well I'm shocked at all the cynicism this morning
Why do you all assume that this thread will turn into a bun fight just because some bloke wants to abscond leaving his debt behind in the U.K?
I agree with him, every cent counts when your migrating, if it were me I'd knock off a couple of service stations or a post office to swell the coffers a bit more

Bluddy good idea!!
I have searched the house for a stocking to put over my head. The problem is, I don't ever remember the wife wearing stockings so I am struggling a bit. I found my 4 year old daughter's white woolly tights and can just about squeeze one of the legs over my head but I can't see a bluddy thing and breathing is a bit tricky!
Does anyone wear stockings any more and if so can I borrow one? (god I feel pervy asking that!!)
