Deaf Support? New Applicant
#1
Helllo, I have been enjoying reading the posts here for a couple of days (not the one on spiders). My family and I submitted our application April 2001 - and yes we thought 9 months! Was telling my husband last night about the 15 month good news!
I have a request for information or general views. My daughter is partially deaf - not registered disabled - she attends main stream school and has a statement from our local eduction authority (which means she gets some extra teaching support). I would love to chat or get your views from anyone in a similiar position (or knows the process) who has decided to go ahead with their application even though there maybe a potential problem. The firm we have used to help with our application thought we as a family were ideal candidates until we mentioned our daughter - now we have been told it is just a gamble!
We have not submitted medicals as we had been advised to wait because of the possibility of delay meaning they had to be resubmitted (one piece of good advice) but we did put police checks in (will plan to get those redone). We did fill out the skills matching.
At what level does the Medical Officer decide we would be too much of strain on Australia.(we are willing to pay all extra costs personally) We have an idea of the British Costs but how does that translate to Aus? - I am possibly not making myself clear here I understand about the money level set by Austrailia - but can we offset any of those calculated costs.
Many thanks for any Help. Hopefully I will be able to join in with other threads as we settle back for the big wait.

Hi Sandra,
Have a look at the decisions of the MRT and IRT on medical reviews: the link to the
MRT under institutions on our website should work, or try www.lawfoundation.net.au .
No-one knows exactly what the formula for medical assessments is. One client of mine
was given a A$480,000 figure and on review was told A$750,000, so it seems that the
whole thing is quite arbitrary (and the round numbers sugges there may not be a
formula at all)
Probably, however, you should be doing your medicals now and getting ready to take up
the case with relevant specialists if need be. Get your agents to send you the forms
26 and 160.
Cheers

Thanks
I will contact our Agent this week and discuss the Medicals - they did tell us to wait until we where asked but I have been collecting information about the situtation - regardless of there reply I will get the forms ans start ensuring I am well up to date with the process. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks ever so - this forum makes me feel I am not the only one feeling unsure about the basics however much I read.
