Smile Customs Clearance Costs - shipping

Hi all,

Can anyone give us any ideas on extra costs charged on top of those by the shipping companies by Australian customs? Such as fumigation of your stuff, and general checking.

Any help welcome.

Thanks

Paul

Hi

Crown quoted us £150 for the customs to inspect our consignment but as to fumigation etc i think it is better done here and getting a certificate as ive heard the charge silly prices as u have no choice when its there.

Hope this helps

Customs clearance is generally included in the quote, as the shipping company will get the goods cleared there.
AQIS - quarantine and fumigation - is an unknown quantity until you get there because it is up to them what they decide to inspect. There is an inspection fee of $160-200, and then a fumigation or destruction fee for each item they are not happy with - around $60-80.
Do not assume that because goods were fumigated in the UK, then AQIS will be happy with them. they are a law unto themselves and if they are not happy, your goods will be zapped again!
