Question Crowns insurance VS Letton Percival

Hi there, we have chosen Crown to take your things to Brisbane, but now before I send off the paper work, should we use their insurance or letton percivals?

The woman from Crown did sell it well, any claims will be dealt with in Brisbane as it is Crown there also, not a sister company etc. She also said Letton Percival have a higher excess even though their poilicy might be cheaper.

So I know a lot of you have went with Letton Percival and have great things to say about them, but does anyone have anything good to say about Crowns own insurance?

Thank you in advance.

I looked into LP but decided against it because the small print seemed to say that anything not written down on the manifest wouldn't be covered. I wasn't going to spend months listing every CD and book, teaspoon and lightbulb so we paid a lot more with Crown.

Crown smashed some 25 - 30 items and it took a hell of a lot of effort to get replacement values etc, but when we eventually put in the claim it was paid within a couple of days - nearly $4000 IIRC.

Thought about this myself. Might just do a manifest of what I am bothered about and then if I lose any or all of my goods could only claim for what I have insured. This would mean that I am not paying a percentage of goods I am not too bothered about and I have less hassel on the manifest.

I've been trying to list everything in the house and its value this afternoon! It's done my bl*****dy head in!!!! We must have over 50 pictures, ranging from prints to kiddies piccies, how the hell can you put a price on them. And don't get me started on the kids toys!!!How much is a cyber man electronic mask worth!!Like the poster above,I don't think I'll insure everything.Have looked at insuring it on a lump sum basis - you don't need to list anything - but it's really expensive - anyone done this?

They have given us a lump sum of £26000, (£1800 per cubic metre), but their is no way our things are worth that much we are only using half a container. Just trying to get through reading everything.

When we moved Crowns % of the value was a lot higher than LP's. Whilst LP have a higher excess when I calculated mine it would work out about the same if I have to claim, if I didn't I was quids in (which I was as only the glass from one picture was broken). When I said to Crown I was going elsewhere as there % was too high then did immediately reduce it but I was still quids in with LP so didn't bother, (Crown had to back down from their Excess excuse when I detailed the breakdown).

LP were very helpful and knowledgeable when I went through everything with then on the phone (I have a lot of specialist high cost items so wanted to check everything). I also covered my stuff that was going on the plane with them (as I no longer had any other insurance for it) at the same % although breakages weren't covered since it was classed as self packed.
