Re: Crown Relocations

I used John Mason and their local agent here in Melbourne was Kent International. Both sides were excellent and the standard of service was consistent from both companies. One point of contact for each company, lots of calls with info, queries etc.

Kent's delivery guys were great, only two of them but they worked their proverbials off on a 30+ day only stopping for one quick drink break and some bacon butties I made them for lunch.

They asked what i wanted unpacked and I was quite happy for them to just do the big stuff and leave most of the boxes as I didn't want piles of stuff all over the house.

Kent's office had already phoned me a few days before the delivery to confirm the date and time and told me not to worry about packing materials, just to call when I had it all done and they would come and collect it free of charge. (I ended up keeping all the boxes and wrapping paper - took longer to flatten all the paper out than unpack the boxes! )

The delivery guys made sure all the things I said I needed were found and unpacked before they left, they even made sure I had a knife to open the boxes and said they would cut the tape open an the boxes to make it easier for me to unpack.

Last thing before they left, they gave me half a dozen huge Kent plastic bags to put the packaging in and made sure I had the office number to call for a rubbish pickup.

All in all a first class service both ends and would recommend both companies without any hesitation. They were a little bit more expensive than one or two others but worth it for the stress free move.

Re: Crown Relocations

Do the packing guys at both ends expect a tip, and what is a reasonable tip nowadays?

Re: Crown Relocations

the guys came to pick it up from us free as they did jobs on the side so they said do you mind if we take your packagiing for free....

Out of the blue yesterday I got a call from their 'national quality manager' in Sydney apologising for the situation

Coincidence? Or do they read this forum? I think they do guys.

Don't know if they 'expect' a tip, but I'm sure they wouldn't say no. I just kept both sets of guys fed and watered for the time they were there and got them a slab of beers to take with them at the end and they seemed quite happy with that.

The John Masons guys said they had spent three days packing at a house prior to mine and weren't even offered a tea in the whole time they were there, when one of them asked to top up his water bottle he was pointed to the outside tap! They seemed chuffed I splashed for fish n chip lunch and made them brunch on the second day.

Sorry to hear that. They did the same to us - & worse  before we left the UK. I was really p*ssed off with them in the end, & have posted several times on this site about the aggro we had. Sadly, they're not the good folks they claim to be.

Hope it works out OK for you.

Cheers,
Anya.

They didn;t seem interested so once it arrived I just brushed my hands of them and had a good sort through my stuff.

I only finnished unpacking it last week and it arrived in Jan.

Wouldn;t use them again and would find it hard to reccomend them but they do seem to continuously come up as the best in polls on here so they must be pretty good gererally.

I complained about a few things while we were still in the UK only to find that their company is a hotbed of interdepartmental politics and internecine warfare between staff. It was like one of those John Cleese 'How not to run a business' training videos.

My advice in a word: AVOID!!

Well I know that John Masons regularly read this forum so would assume the others do. Migration agents do and so do DIMIA and if I was in any of their positions I would as well. Oh I do - proved my point :D

Re: Crown Relocations

Just phoned PSS (already arranged a quote from Crown).

We want to move on 22nd August. They can't get an estimator to us before the end of July which, they say, is cutting it too fine (I guess due to having to book a space on a ship). Bugger. Got to use their web site estimator and if I like that price, they may be able to juggle an estimator to come out to us.

All this thanks to DIMIA still processing my visa application since April 2004 (One of the pre-Julyers).

Re: Crown Relocations

As National Quality Manager for Crown Relocations Australia, I would like to thank you for your feedback regarding your recent relocation from UK to Brisbane.

As discussed on the telephone last Thursday, we do advise that our Brisbane office will be collecting your empty cartons on Friday at no additional charge.

You are correct in saying that it is our delivery crew's responsibility to unpack your cartons to a hard surface (eg, table top, kitchen bench etc) on the actual day of delivery. Once this is completed, we are to take away the empty cartons immediately.

The reason that an additional collection fee does apply, is in the instance where our client elects not to have the cartons unpacked on the actual delivery day and asks us to return in a couple of weeks to collect them. This fee is a nominal charge to assist to offset the cost of running a truck on a second visit.

Crown Relocations is a quality focused organisation and we do pride ourselves in meeting and surpassing our clients expectations at all times.

I would like to again to thank you for providing your feedback to us and I hope the above information answers your questions raised.

We wish you the best of success with your new life in Australia and look forward to be of service to you again should the need arise.

Kind Regards

Peter Schacht
National Quality Manager
Crown Relocations Australia.

So yesterday methinks...now's the time to phone Crown and get them to take away all the 'debris'....they certainly pack everything well...think they destroyed an entire rainforest to get all the paper they used! We have at least 20 black bin bags full of paper plus a few boxes (we're keeping a lot of boxes for our next move as I'm told they're pricey here....well that's what the Crown delivery guy told me...maybe that was just an excuse not to load his truck up with them again)

So I get on the dog'n'bone to ask them to come and get it all. I'm eventually phoned back by a chap called Steve who informs me that as we're up on the Sunshine Coast they'll only collect it next time they're up here doing a delivery. I said fine that wasn't a problem....he then added that there would be a charge of $88 for this service
I replied 'no...clearance of packing materials was included in the fee we originally paid Crown' but he replied 'oh yea they used to do that but now there's an extra charge for that......we'll take away any packing materials on the day of delivery for free but if we have to come back there's a charge'

I then explained to him that his delivery chaps didn't help us unpack anything smaller than the sofas or our bed....they left us to unpack all 100+ boxes on our own.
At the time I suppose I just happy to finally get my stuff back and didn't think to actually say to the blokes 'hey get unpacking all of these boxes!'

I said to Steve ' With respect.....how can you possibly have expected us to have unpacked 100+ boxes in one day????'........he had no answer for that and the line fell a little quiet....so I told him to forget it and I'll be writing to Crown to complain.

So be warned.........when your delivery chaps bring your stuff....make the swines unpack EVERYTHING........no matter how long it takes them!

I don't mind having to wait a few weeks for them to be in the area again so they don't have to make a 'special trip'....but to be charged....again???

We thought about just taking it all up the tip...but it will probably take several trips and we'd be charged for it too (hubby looked into it)....then I thought no why should we??? We've already paid Crown to do this and now they're renaigning (sp?) on that..

So right now....Crown aren't my favourite people

They may well indeed: after all, it would be a good way to trawl for business.

I have just PMd this guy who claims to be their Quality Manager, so we will see if their reading the site includes being concerned about unhappy customers.

Anya.

Good on him for coming onto the site and commenting. A very good marketing move on his part, and I admire him for it. I certainly still intend to get a quote from Crown.

Re: Crown Relocations

Me too. I'm already packing my stuff (mostly books, winter clothes/shoes, CD/DVD cases, and my collection of piglets :D ), just to get an idea of how many boxes, how much space I might need, and in order not to leave it to the last minute.
I'm in Milan, Italy, leaving on 25th September, and I'm planning to call Crown around mid-July for a first approach.

I'm not in a hurry to get this stuff delivered, as I think I can go without it for 6 months after I arrive. I hope I have found a job and a house by that time!

I don't know why, but although I know I'm doing things rather early, I still feel I'm behind my schedule...

Well, I've just found out that I'm going to need a 40' conatiner. Ouch! At least I was expecting it. Still got 300' cubic foot spare so we're going to try and squeeze even more in. Anyone want to stow a lift?
