Yep, exactly what I said!
That's our situation too.

And yeah, agree with Mrs JTL too, this poll is not really going to be very helpful, oh well, ya gotta try I guess

I have lived in Croydon and Rusholme as well as many other places in a few countries. The only place where I felt at risk at night was in Rusholme. A housemate there was mugged at knifepoint for a fiver and 10 cigarettes. Maybe I am lucky.

I agree that it can be down to where you came from, to where you are going.
I moved from a very built up area to a very quiet area, and feel much safer here.
In the part of the UK we were in, alarms were needed, but again only in certain parts, but here, as I said, we feel much safer without the security of alarms. I would probably feel very different if we lived in certain other areas.

Well we moved from the lowest crime rate area in the UK to what seems like a nice crime free (ish) suburb in Brisbane. Can't say I've noticed any change in our habits. I do read the local papers every week to see if there are any burglaries or bashings in the area.

Cheers,
JTL

I ticked both car crime here in Aus and car crime in UK.

Had my car stolen in the Uk, here in Aus have had car broken into twice, once in the drive a few years ago in a previous home, and once at a boatramp stole the bridge transponder ( druggies/kids probably - must have thought it was a radar detector lol - it looked a bit like that).

haven't had a house break in either country - only once someone did try and get into the house back in UK. We were on holidays , the lock had been damaged on one of the doors - didn't get in though ( they are good locks).
here in Aus one evening had a teen snooping around - he ran off when spotted. Depends where you live I suppose, live in high crime area and you will get a lot of it.
Can't say I've had crime here or in the Uk ( just the cars). I've never lived in a really rough area.

I don't really think this poll will be accurate as like most polls on the diff between Aus and the UK. Isn't there more people who use this board in the UK than here in Aus? And they of course will be pressing only the UK boxes

cheers

Just found this regarding crime rates.

Crime Figures

Australia comes top (i.e. worst) in 3 out of the 4 sections.

The survey is a bit out of date, it relates to 1999, and was published in 2001.

The figures and stats I have seen in the past Australia comes out top over the UK for rape and violent crimes. It beats the uk on quite a few crime things.

Stats and figures, they can be easily twisted, and it depends who, or how they get them and how they label them . I know there are two official sources in the Uk and even their figures and stats alter from each others - the police have their own and a government body. The figurers from these two never match each others.

Depends , never been a victim here (or any of our family members) in Aus or the UK myself
