Hello,

I am trying to find out about credit references in Oz. I can't find anything on the forum and was wondering if anyone could clarify anything on this for me please?

I understand that basically you have no credit history and so will find it difficult to get mobile phones etc - is this right?

I would really appreciate some clarification on this!

You can always take your current phones with you to oz and buy ozzy sim cards (pay as you go) to start you off.
Take mortgage statements any past credit details with you this may also help you get a credit history with a view to get services etc.

When you leave the UK you leave your credit file behind. Most Aus financial establishments treat your lack of history as an asset. (nothing is better than negative) so you should be fine. We got phones, credit cards and subsequently a mortgage and Westpac confirmed the above.

Remember we're a nation of migrants and financial institutions realise that and make allowances. Your credit history in the UK, past statements and all that mean nothing and I certainly wouldnt go to the bother of brining them with you, except to use as fuel in an open fire on the long winter nights perhaps.
