Hi all,

Credit ratings? Are they automatically transfered to Oz? I am just wondering how easy it will be to get a loan/mortgage when we get over there...

If you had amex in the uk, you can open an amex account in oz and they will use your credit rating from the uk and give you a credit card. I hope this helps.

Pete, a quick chat with the ANZ reveals that they are looking at minimum of 6 months for credit card and mortgages loans etc. I think you also have to have been employed consistantly for 6 months before they will look at you for credit. Unless your PR then forget it and the credit rating starts a new (Phew)

We've been advised to take a copy of our Experian credit file (you can get it for a couple of ££) - and if you bank with someone like HSBC/First Direct to transfer your account to Australia (you don't have to transfer the balance).

Although its no guarantee you won't have to start again, some lenders may take it into account - and it could tip the balance in your favour on a marginal decision.
