Can you apply for credit while on a working sponsor visa, i am looking for a credit card and not sure if it would be better to apply in the UK and take it to australia or wait and apply for one on arrival ?

Any experience will this ??

Yes you can easy as! Dont listen to all the crap on here that you cannot get credit on a 457 visa its balls. Iam here on a 457 and we got an ANZ Gold Credit card as easy as I would have done back in the UK. They dont give a monkeys chuff. Tip dont apply online though as a default it will decline your application as you are not a permanent resident. Whan you get here go into a bank and speak to someone in there they will do it for you

If you can get a UK one though I'd do that as well - then you have something to use en route, and as soon as you get here. Otherwise you will be running round trying to get a card in the firsr couple of days. At least if you bring UK ones you have something to tide you over

I have been told by Commonwealth to wait a couple of months when I am working, to apply for a CC. I am on a 138 visa, but they don't know that...

Yea, I'd go with this too... We're on a 164 and were initially advised that there's no chance and then when we spoke to someone at the bank (Westpac) they checked and it was OK... Gold Mastercard no probs...
