We all pay into the tax bucket, so if there is money to be given out, we should all get a share in some way, by tax cuts or whatever.

I have no pride when it comes to handouts.

We're on a fairly decent income and it was totally unexpected when $2000 arrived in our bank account. To be honest I daren't spend it for fear of them asking for it back.

(But this only lasted 2 days - I then spent it all on sweets and crisps).

Although we benefited personally I thought it was a crass way of operating - seemed a bit niaive - dishing out $1000 for every kid without strings.

I agree. This wasn't thought out properly, or even in the slightest.

Hopefully, the 2nd package that they are talking about will be better organised, and be more beneficial to the country as whole.

I do wonder how much of the 1st payout ended up back in the governments pockets via the tax on the increased amount spent on gambling in Dec/Jan.

Yes, we were in that category, used to be maddening. OH worked with someone who had five kids and they got a fortune in child benefit, and there we were, two full time wages coming in and STILL struggling in life.

I think the government has cocked up giving the money at all - it's not made a bit of difference to the economy and we're all going to pay for it somewhere down the line.

A friend of mine has 5 kids, he didn't work, but volunteered with the SES.

They offered him a fulltime paid job, but he had to refuse, as it meant losing some benefits, and his net income would go down !!

He still volunteers, and does it full time, but insist's on not getting paid.

I've never been convinced that CC merchandise is subject to the same quality control measures as 'proper' stuff.

I'm funny like that see...

Some is, some isn't, you do need to be careful.

The Vietnamese Colgate toothpaste is not the same as the Australian made one, it has different ingredients.

But they had some IXL jam recently, exactly the same as the normal ones, but in the older style jars.
Still had a 2011 use by date, but cost $2 instead of $5 in Woolworths.

Some stuff is rubbish, and I think all these $2 or £1 shops tend to sell some rubbish, but some good bargains too.

But if it does the job, doesn't kill you, and saves money ...
