Craigie is quite run down in my opinion, it was originally a blue collar suburb and the peeps from there were always a bit 'rough.' However, it is in a pretty good location (near major transport links and reasonable close to the beach) The blocks would be a decent size. I considered buying there and may do in the future but the suburb needs a bit of a facelift me thinks.

Thanks for that. I did think it may be as you said because the house prices look very reasonable for the location. What about Padbury? We originally wanted to look to living in Woodvale after our recce (3 years ago) but don't think we can afford it now, so we are looking at surrounding suburbs. Any opinions would be most welcome.

It's next to the sewerage works and on many days, if the wind is coming your way, you get the famous "Craigie pong"

Amen to that. We went to look at a rental in Woodvale and you could smell it there on that day.

We went to see Craige last week and just came back even without having a look at the house that we went to see. First we thought it could be worthwhile to have a look at that house coz they have advertised for 300,000 range. First of all, I do not understand how house prices went up to 300,000 in such a remote area. One might say, it is cheaper than paying for 500,000 up living closer to the city. But then what's the point of living in so much difficulties after migrating to a country for better living?? If 500,000 is not our range, then we should think twice before wasting more time. That's what we are evaluating at this moment.

.....but don't buy too close to the Pinnaroo Crem. - otherwise you'll be subjected to the "Padbury pong."

Cheers guys for your input, seems I am way off the mark. Can anybody recomend a good area to investigate. Around this sort of area.Ideally 10 -20 km from Perth, within 20 mins of beach. We are a family of 5 (kids 9,5 and 2) so would be looking for good schools, parks, safe streets, community type feel, etc. Anybody got thoughts on Greenwood?

Thanks, Nicky x

What about Carramar, Tapping, Connelly, Duncraig. All new areas within 20mins of beach and lots of good schools. Lots of ex-pats in these areas as well, which some people like and some dont

Greenwood is not too bad, some of the houses are a bit 70's but in my opinion it would be a good bet - close to the beach and parks etc. The houses couls be done up quite nicely. If your budget would stretch I think Duncraig (Northern side) is also a good option.
