Default Counselling?

Wasn't sure where to post this so its here and in the Going Home section.

Just wondering if any of you out there have been desperate to go home and have tried counselling to see if that helps with perspectives?

I myself desperately want to be in the UK but my fiance intends to remain in Oz. I have struggled to find any work which has lead to me feeling extremely down and terrified about the future and my ability to support myself should I have to. This has also not helped with the socialisation process and suddenly I began to hate everyone and everything to do with Oz.

Just wondered if anyone in a similar situation (?) had tried counselling and whether it had assisted. I would like to know of any positive experiences of it before committing to paying for it (especially given unemployment situation!).

Could it be that with help I could change my perspectives?

Many thanks.

LCT....when seeking counselling - they will never offer you advice, but just ask questions of you, which will make you look at your inner self and your self awareness.....this can help you to understand how you think and why and will get you to explore different avenues.....etc....could be good for you, but don't want you to go thinking that they will give you a solution....only you can do that....good luck Ems x

Have you thought about doing a holiday or short trip home?!

Sometimes that might help you get into perspective how long nd green the grass is on each side of the fence and choose a paddock that suits yor grazing requirements!

best of luck!

recent medicare changes mean that you can go to a GP and ask them to do a mental health assessment and get referred to a psychologist. this means you can claim up to 75% of the psychologist fee back for up to 6 sessions. i did this for a similar reason to you and got god results I had EMDR which worked really well. I still miss England and have the same things on my mind but now they aren't prominent in my thinking. I can enjoy today and live in my present life instead of feeling "numb". If you really can't see yourself staying here then may be it's time to go back. at least give it a try. I have gone backwards and forwards. I have had times when i have felt at home in Aus and times when i haven't. A lot of it is to do with your state of mind. Yes it's a good idea to sort out how you think especially before making big decisions. good luck also do a self assessment on this site

My husband is a counsellor (not working in that field at the moment) / was a trainee psychotherapist. Counselling and analysis is not only for when you are a bit down and struggle. It does have a few purposes. We both will probably go back to analysis at some point when we are settled. It helps in all parts of your life. Kind helps you to work out whats going on in certain parts of your life. Definately they won't tell you want to do but get you to think about some things that might be making you feel the way you do. Sometimes though its not always clear how its helping but it just does. Thats perhaps why i am struggling to explain it.
