thanks for the reply's, I will be working at cairns base hospital, I don't know much about the tax system there, how much would I come out with after tax on $48000

The exact amount depends on the package from your employer and how your Super (pension) is done.

But I've had a quick look on the ATO (Aussie Tax Office) website and according to their simple tax calculator (http://calculators.ato.gov.au/script...putDetails.asp) the amount of tax you would pay on $48k is $9k. So your net income for the year would be $39k = $750 per week, $1500 per fortnight or about $3250 per calendar month.

Did you know qld health nurses just got a pay rise from 1st dec, so a newly qualified nurse working full time will get $50190 plus shift allowances. Salary packaging will also reduce the amount of tax you'll pay
