Default Cost of living in Perth?

Can anyone give me some idea of the current cost of living around Perth? We are concerned that we would have to sell our house in Ireland at a substantial loss and buy into a bubble over there. Also any ideas on cost of college in Perth would be helpful as we would have 3 children in college at the same time for 3 years! Need advice before we decide whether or not to activate our visas. Many thanks.

Where around Perth? It's a very spread out area with a huge range of types of neighbourhoods. What you'd pay for a house in Mosman Park or Peppermint Grove is going to be decidedly different to what you'd pay in Gosnells or Balga.

Where will you be working? Do you want to live near the ocean or hills? North or South of the river?

Do some research then come back with some info for us to work with. Also do a search (peach coloured bar just above where threads are) for "perth cost of living" and you'll find a plethora of threads discussing the very same topic. Oddly, it comes up frequently.

The guy that fitted my kitchen a few years back came 2-3 years before I did so about 9 years ago. He told me he got over 3:1.

Yeah, he must've had a very charitable currency broken then!

The rate was 3.00 or higher on 3 days since 1998...maybe on the 28th Sept 2001 someone might've just squeeked 3. Otherwise they're lying!

I remember someone on here saying they converted 5000GBP to $16k!

There are a million threads on the cost of living on here along with a lot of debate and hopefully this one wont start it all off again.

For my two pence worth, i find the cost of living about 2.5 - 3 times that of the UK. I dont know how this works for Ireland, but for the UK, what you salary is in pounds should be about 3x in dollars. So if you earn 30k pounds, then you need $90k dollars for the same lifestyle. Now, salary MAY reflect this, but a lot of people find it doesnt.

Cant advise on Colleges cos our three girls decided to do their tertiary education in UK.

In the nearly 8 years we have been here, our living expenses have gone up by about 60%, our current house which we've been in for +5years has gone up in value by 25%, and our wages have gone up by +200%

Short term you might struggle, long term you'll probably be fine.

A lot of people cant cope with the short term struggles though, so have your backup plans in place.

Yes, but a fair few people i know havent had anything like the salary rises. Last year a couple of my neighbours incomes dropped significantly. One who works in the building trade had his drop by about 40%
