While parents at the poorest state schools forked out an average of $408 for each child every year, those at the most advantaged state schools stumped up $1430, according to research by Deakin and Murdoch universities.

Uniforms, books, this and that, it all adds up. Thank goodness those days are over.

Only a small part of the overall cost of raising a child of course. No wonder so many are deferring having children these days and more never do.

Hi mate long time no hear. Our twins started high school this year and with camp, music lessons, ipads etc we didn't get much change out of $10,000 for the two of them for the year. At a state school!

Wow! Are you sure it isn't a private school? I think all us expats get a shock when the state school wants a significant pile of pennies off us. You didn't list the Building Fund - did you pass on that one?
