Copied DVDs in shipped container
#1
We have a large number of copied DVDs. They're not bootlegged ones bought from a dodgy market stall, but copies of DVDs we used to own, then copied and the gave the originals to family. Is this going to present a problem for shipping? I know that they may not appear strictly legal.

I wondered the same about PC hard drives, I might have a couple of terrabytes of movies and tv shows. I assume the don't check hard drives for content?

Crap - I hadn't even thought of that. Most stuff on our external hard drives (yes, multiple) might have been acquired through bit-torrents. That would be a bit too much for the customs to investigate though, no?

At the risk of being pedantic - they clearly are dodgy, because you've just said they're copies of original DVDs. Not taking the moral high-ground here, I have a house full of bent DVDs, but the fact is a copy's a copy whether you owned it or not.
But to the original question - you'll be fine - they're slightly more concerned with the importation of drugs or vegetable matter than a knock-off copy of The Rock.

Yeah but you don't own them anymore, you gave them to family member

*Pedant Alert* - I still have both copies just now.
It's not like I ripped off the movie companies by not buying their DVDs in the first place

Fair enough
I sold most of my dvd's on amazon in prep for the move out. Seemed better to turn them in to cash than ship them, I also downloaded a few terabytes of films I never owned or bought. So I guess you're more honest than me

I'm laughing at myself right now
I'm not disclosing the extent of my bit-torrent habit here
I guess you had to make the most of having something resembling fast internet before the move - god how I'll miss the 20MG broadband when we eventually move!

I love my BE DSL :-) 17-18Mb is the norm with a 2Mb ish upload. I have been looking at Oz broadband and so I'm hoping that once I get out I won't feel like the guy on 'Life on Mars'

In Australia ? You must be kidding. Expect crap speeds [if you can even GET DSL] and having to pay exorbitant prices for it.
