Default Confused: 23 or 20KG?

My BA itinerary says 23kg baggage allowance as I booked thru them but the plane is operated by Qantas whose usual allowance is 20kg. So how much am I allowed -23 or 20?

BA didn't seem able to answer this question when I called or via their email contact Can anyone enlighten me

20kg.

But I reckon you'd get away with 23kg without charge.

Just to add the earlier you check in the less chance of being charged.

Hi

It should be whatever is printed on your ticket or e-ticket itinery. So if it says 23 kg then QF should allow that.

Most times airlines will allow you up to 25kg without too much fuss but once over that you then have to chat up the check-in girl!

Hi

23 kg is hold luggage. Most airlines these days are operating a 7kg hand luggage limit.

Heathrow have got very sticky recently about weighing everything and keeping to the rules - be warned!

Why would he want to do that when he has a looker like you for a girlfriend?

You will get away with up to 25 safely, I have had 29 once but regularly 25/26 in economy. Main thing is the hand luggage must be in weight from all my experience. I once tried to board with 12kg (should have been 7) in my backpack and they just made me stow it in the hold.

You're entitled to whatever baggage allowance is printed on your itinerary/e-ticket receipt irrespective of the airline operating the flight.

If you have a single ticket involving multiple airlines with different allowances, then you're entitled to the most generous allowance all the way through.

Cheers

Singapore is 20kg and on my last trip I weighed in with 32kg ...

They said they can swallow 25kg but wanted £250 (I think) for the rest so I found a rubbish bin and ditched a few bits ...

Oh and boarded the plane with 3 pairs of trousers on, 3 shirts, 4 jumpers and a jacket!

Honest! ... the lady told me to 'layer up!'

Just to defer from the original topic slightly, has anyone taken a suit onto a flight? (in economy that is) I'm going to a wedding in Sydney in a couple of weeks and am going to take my suit on with me as a second piece of hand luggage. Do Qantas/BA have anywhere to hang stuff like that up or will I have to put it in the overhead lockers where it will no doubt get screwed up!

I took a suit and shirts on 5 flights on the way to Oz, in a suit carrier in the hold. Arrived fine, just needed a few touch ups with an iron.

It really is a nightmare isn't it? We have a 20kg allowance, and have to try to get our life into 20kg each. At least they have relaxed the one hand luggage thing now so we can take laptop AND a bag.
