We were given a concession card when we got here though husband found work in a month.We did not apply for it and did not use it.Sue.

This was in about November 2007,we arrived in October.All we did was go to Centrelink about the Child allowance payable and the card just came in the post.Don't know if it is still the same.Good luck with finding a job.Sue.

Centrelink may have just read this... they will be tightening up on these errors now
No more mistakenly issued Concession cards...

Centrelink Concession cards: You need to meet a 104-week newly arrived resident’s waiting period or be exempt from this requirement, for example if you are a refugee or the partner of an Australian citizen.

I visited Centrelink this morning and was told that I will be entitle for FTB for kids under 16.

That is correct, subject to family income levels. These are calculated at the end of the year, and any overpayment has to be repaid.

This does catch out some people who claim for 3 months, then get a good job, which takes them over the annual threshold, and they find they have to repay all, or part of, the FTB.
