Question Computer prices?

Hi everyone,

I know it's too early for anyone to be up in Aus yet, but was wondering if computers were dearer, cheaper or about the same cost as here?

Kids want one of their own, so don't know whether to buy one to take or just wait until we arrive.

Thanks,

N

Hi Curly,
My Dad bought a new laptop whilst we were there in April from www.officeworks.com.au shop near him for $799 and went on and on what a bargain he had. I remember him saying that it was wireless internet connection and that's about it! It was a nice one
Or check out dick smith electronics. Hope this helps

Thanks Jaycee, that sounds a good price, so at least that's something we won't have to cram in the container

Clearly it depend what you want but you'll get entry level home PC/Lapdog from $750 up.

Aldi, the German discount supermarket chain, have a deal on about every three months for desk or lapdogs.

Their most recent one was for a 17" screen lapdog, 2.6GHz (I think), 100GB, good graphics card, DVD, TV tuner card for $2200.

You might want to consider the fact that many workplaces allow with the ATO blessing, a lapdog purchase every year (not a desktop) free of Fringe Benefits Tax.

For example, you pay $2000 for a lapdog in a store and you get a Tax Office compliant receipt from them. You then submit that receipt to your employer who reimburses the full cost then takes the money back out of your salary typically over one year.

The beauty is that your payments back are free of income tax. Sooooo....if you are a 40% marginal tax rate taxpayer you will only end up paying $1200 for the laptop, not $2000, and you will spread the payment over say one year.

The ATO allows this to be done once every FBT year (April thru March).

simply go on www.dell.com.au and "build" your own system, and see how much it is at the end. Dell do have some great offers on, and at the mo, you can get a really high spec pc + 17 in flat panel monitor for $999 which is about 420 quid.
