Caught a film on ITV yesterday called Pollyana. Is that where you got your name?
Dunno, could be, its from the kids book by Eleanor Porter, about the girl who sees something good in everything. My Dad used to call me it when I was a little girl

The road can be closed due to heavy deluges but in my experience it was only for a comparatively short period of time. Road works at Gordonvale (bridge) and just north of Innisfail have minimised the risk of road closure. South of Innisfail was more likely to be affected for long periods of time.

After Larry the road was closed for some time due to debris on the road (and probably to stop the rubberneckers)

Just one mild hill (more like a bump) to negiotiate. A pleasant drive through green country side (canefields with mountain backdrop). A least there are no traffic jambs going that way. Stuck in traffic would be road works. Plenty of people in SEQ would spend more time commuting to Brisbane.

Gary, as WW says, probably not too bad by many people's standards for a commute but Cairns does give you a different perspective on that!
All you can do is try it & see how it goes & who knows what may turn up in the meantime!
