Is there a fee for using the Post Office with an HSBC account? I have been using Commonwealth Bank and they have been a nightmare so far.

Here's something from my Credit Union web site about reducing fees. what they also do is look at your monthly balance and give you a member credit that can be offset against fees and charges.
The genral tip they give is to get a Visa card linked to your current account and use that wherevere possible as this incurs 0 fee.
Smart Ways to Avoid Paying Excess Transaction Fees
By making some simple changes to the way you manage your accounts, you can minimise and even avoid paying any excess transaction fees:
Use your VISA Card
Tip: Press "CR" when paying for purchases or bills with your VISA card.
Whenever you make a purchase or pay your bills, use your InTech VISA Card by pressing 'CR' and signing for the transaction. This type of transaction is termed a VISA retail / merchant transaction and is always a FREE transaction. VISA Card transactions made over the internet or telephone are also FREE transactions.
Paying Bills
Tip: Use BPAY via the Internet or Telephone Teller.
To pay bills without incurring additional fees use BPAY via the Internet or Telephone Teller or your VISA Card over the phone. You can even future-date payments so your bills are paid on time, every time. These are all FREE transactions.
QuickDebit
Tip: Use Quick Debit to transfer funds into your InTech accounts.
Use InTech's FREE Quick Debit service anytime you need to transfer funds from another financial institution into your InTech account - whether a regular loan repayment or a one-off transfer such as setting up an InTech Term Deposit.
EFTPOS
Tip: Take out extra cash when using EFTPOS, instead of at the ATM.
When you pay for a purchase using EFTPOS and you know you'll require additional cash for later, request additional cash-out as part of your EFTPOS transaction. This way you only make one EFTPOS transaction for many purchases.
ATM
Tip : Make larger planned withdrawals rather than many small withdrawals.
All ATM fees are charged on a per transaction basis and not on the value of the transaction. Therefore, by simply budgeting, you can minimise the number of ATM withdrawals and the Excess Transaction Fees.
Avoid Payment Default Fees
Tip : Use Telephone Teller or Internet Banking to check your balances day or night and use Cache Money for those unexpected expenses.
With Telephone Teller and Internet Banking it is easy to keep track of the available funds in your All-In-One Access Savings Account (S1). For those times when unexpected expenses do arise or you need to juggle funds, take advantage Cache Money - your personal overdraft facility.

Funds can be accessed at over 7000 ATMs, 150,000 EFTPOS and at 2,500 giroPOST offices throughout Australia
You can have Five free ATM transactions per month, at any bank ATM.
HSBC have only about 30 ATM's in this country, I think.

With no TFN quoted, tax at the highest rate will be deducted.
This figure will be included in your Tax Return, and adjustments will be made at the end of the year when your refund or payment is finalised. (Most people in OZ get annual tax refunds)
