I wonder how DIMIA determines a closely related occupation. For instance I have worked as an economist and a project evaluator for a few years. My nominated occupation is "Accountant". Can expect additional points for experience?

Perhaps look at the key descriptions for "accountant" and relate it closely to the bits of your experience - emphasise the parts which fit in with what they want.
